Getting to the heart of Total Defence (Home-Youthink pg B7)

Question 1 :

In the last line, what did the writer mean by suggesting that " he may have found more porcupines than rats?"

I think the writer means that the rats is referring to those who are the coward to fight for our country while the porcupines refer to the brave soldiers that are willing to sacrifice their life to protect our country. When the "rats" heard the enemy's footstep, they were so sacred that they ran off quickly in order to protect themselves while the" porcupine" saw that the enemies have come, they fight bravely for the country and never even give a thought about their own safety. That means, the writer said that there are more brave soldiers than the coward in the Singapore Army Force nowadays.

Question 2 :

What's worth giving up your life for?

I felt that it is worth giving up your life to your loved ones. It is also important to treasure your loved ones and never to forget about them. It will depend who I'm giving my life for, and it depends whether it is really a need to give up my life for that person. Although my family and I are always quarreling with each other, I still care about them no matter what. Same things goes for my friends. When my friends and I quarrel with each other,I still apologize to them after the problems are solved. When something emergency happen to my family, I will give up my life for them and never give a second thought for myself. The reason is because they are my loved ones and I can't bear to see my family groaning in pain. When I saw that, I would feel worried and extremely sad about it.Therefore, I felt that it is really the worth to give up on my life for my loved ones, no matter what has happens!

No Loitering After School (IN! pg 7)

Question 1 :
Why Coral Secondary School forbids students to idle around near their school in their school uniform?

Coral Secondary places much emphasis on inculcating in their students good habits like using time prudently.

Question 2 :
Do you agree with this rule? Explain your answer.

No. The reasons why i say no is because i feel that this rule is too strict for the students. As seen in the newspaper, student felt that this rules has cause a lot of inconvenient for them. Example like when they do not have lunch at home, they cannot go to the nearby White Sands shopping mall to buy their lunch, instead, they may have to go to other places to buy it. This has causes many students and parents not too happy about it. I felt that this rules has also controlled the students' freedom. If i were them, i may feel that this rules is quite unreasonable and may be feeling very angry . If students were being caught in the White Sans shopping mall, they are given two hours of detention. I feel that the principal or discipline master/mistress can make some changes to the rule in order to let the students and parents feel satisfied about it.

To what extend do you agree with this statement?

I agree with this statement as i think that you could only be successful when u do it seriously and diligently using all your precious time. You would gain nothing when u did not put in effort to it and that would not leads you to success. As seen in the newspaper, Jack Neo now has become a famous actor is because that when he was young, he always strive to do his best and did not gave up in everything he do. He does work diligently, seriously and now become a famous actor. If there is no hard work, it will not leads to success. The secret to the success are do things without fail and never ever give in everything you do. Also, does your work seriously and diligently. If you have done that, people would give you good comments about it which will make you feel happy and satisfied with the work you have done . Do not be lazy and instead, be a hardworking person and make your dreams come true!
