PM's 4 BASIC RULES FOR RELIGIOUS HARMONY

Question 1a :
What are the 4 rules for religious harmony?

-All groups have to exercise tolerance and restraint.

-Keep religion seperate from politics.

-Goverment ,ust remain secular.

-Maintain the common space that all Singaporeans share.

Question 1b :
In your opinion, how can we maintain a common space in schools?

When sharing meals at schools or workplace, it has to be neutral and secular. Serving everybody food which is halal, no beef and vegetarian, will cause a problem. If this is the situation, different religious of people will never eat their meals together. The answer to this problem is that halal food on one side, vegetarian food for those who need it, no beef for those who don't eat beef so that different religious people will be able to share a meal together, acknowledging that we are not the same.Do not discourage people from interacting and do not make it difficult for us to be one people. Must be confident that eveyone will get equal treatment even though some of the people is from different religous.

Question 2 :
Do you respect other religions? Why or why not? What do you think of children who stay away from their parents' funerals because they believe the traditional rites are against their new religion?

Yes because if you do not respect other religious, others will not respect yours as well. Saying bad about other religious, rumor says that something bad may happen to you. Not only that the person will not respect your religious, it may also cause riots as two of people of different religious have become racists. Therefore, it is only causing much more problems. Respecting other religious may be a good idea as two different religious people may become a good friend or in future may be as best friends too! That is the reason why i choose to respect other relilgious. As for children who stay away from their parents' funerals because they believe the traditional rites are against their new religion, I felt that it is a kind of action that is unfilial to their parents, but they have no choice as they have to follow their own religious.

Elderly Falling Prey to 'Volunteer' Ruse (trick)

Question 1a :
What is the modus operandi (method of operating) of the con artists?

Their modus operandi is to pose, in most instances, as volunteers from welfare organisations on a project to spruce up the homes of these senior citizens.

Question 1b :
What are the Lion Befrienders planning to do to ensure the old folks do not get conned again?

They will sends volunteers out to lonely senior citizens, has also alerted those under its charge about these scamsters. They even said that its full-time staff or its experienced volunteers will introduce new volunteers to the senior citizens, to ensure that the old folk recognise the people who will visit them subsequently.

Question 2 :
Do you like doing social work? Why or why not?

I like doing social work becuase I felt a sense of happiness in me when I am able to help those needy people. If the needy people are happy of me helping them to do some clean up in their house, i am willing to do so for the sake of them. When u help the others, next time, they will help u too. I seriously cannot bare to see the elderly falling prey to 'volunteer' ruse, i felt bad when i did not help them. We should teach them how to recognise which is the real volunteers and also, teach them how to deal it when it comes to that situation. When next time they get into this situation, they will slowly begins to know how to deal it with themselves.

A Deadly Business

Question 1a :
What are the 2 worrying trends about drug trafficking mentioned in the article?

Those aged 16 and older will be dealt with like adults, and this usually means jail, the cane, or worse. For drugs such as Ecstasy and ketamine, the sentence is up to 20 years' jail and 15 strokes of the cane, while for cannabis, heroin and cocaine, adult traffickers face the death penalty. Another worrying trend is that more Singaporeans are being arrested for drug crimes overseas.Between 2002 and 2006, some 330 were caught in Thailand and Malaysia, where many are now behind bars.

Question 1b :
Why are Singaporean increasingly being used as "drug mules" ?

This is because Singaporeans do not need a visa for many places, and they are also less likely to be checked because of Singapore's reputation for being tough on drugs.

Question 2 :
What will you do if you find out that one of your friends is selling drugs? How will you react if someone tries to sell you drugs?

I will immediately tell him or her not to do that as it is bad for her health. It will also destroyed her or his natural look if my friends continue to take the drugs. I will also tell my friend that there is no advantages of taking drugs instead it is harmful for his or her body. It is a waste of money to buy the drugs too. I will tell my friends that they can use the money to save in their piggy bank or use it to buy their favorite things instead of buying drugs. If my friends still did not listen to my advice, calling their parents to settle the problems by themselves maybe a good idea too.If someone tries to sell to me the drugs, i will immediately say 'NO'. Finding some good excuses like, having tution later or i urgently need to go toilet as i got sudden stomach pain may be able to 'get rid' of the person who wanted me to try some drugs.

Hawkers fall prey to brazen break-ins.

Question 1a :
Why is it easy for burglars to break into stalls at the two markets in the Kallang areas?

At the both markets, none of the stalls had their roller shutters and locks tampered with. The thieves got in through the open ceilings, getting a leg up on the pipes or metal bars running along the walls.

Question 1b :
What is the Geylang East Central Merchants' Association going to do about the break-ins?

They held a meeting a week after the July 8 burglary. They will be in touch with the relevant authorities, such as the NEA and the town councils, to look into improving security, possibly by modifying stall layout and design.

Question 2 :
What do you think should be done to tighten the security of the markets? What do you think of the burglars who brazenly break into the stalls?

I think that the government should sealed up the ceilings in order not to let the burglars to make it an easy targets for them to steal things by climbing up the open ceilings. Some of the hawkers may want to keep their money at their homes. This will ensures that the burglars would not steal it. The hawkers may also try to keep their moneys in a safe drawer that is locked with passwords. The burglars who brazenly break into the stalls are quite stupid because when they tried to climb up the open ceilings they are leaving their handprints and footprints as the evidence of stealing things from the stalls. They also did not think of the consequences when they had done something crimes. They did not think before they act.

3 Cheers for the Team

Question 1 (a) :
Why is cheerleading an expensive sport?

Reasons that why cheerleading is an expensive sport is because the cheerleaders need to buy their tailored costumes, new each competition seasons that can cause about $70 or more than that. The price depends on the material and amount of embroidery. The tights that they need to wear cost between $2 to $25. Those are bought from fashion outlets. They even need to buy a pair of gymnastics shoes that cost $90 to $150. Poms-poms cost $50 to $70 pair. All those things that are being mention are imported from other countries. Training mats , hair products, nutritional supplements and vitamins are also needed to be bought. Medical insurance is mostly covered by schools and organisations.

Question 1 (b) :
What makes cheerleading such a tough sport?

It requires a lot of training. They need to cheer, dance, do gymnastics and stunt. This sport is physically demanding. Concussions, sprained ankles, strained muscles and torn hamstrings are among the injuries that cheerleader risk. For young men wrists sprains from lifting the women are common, and partial memory loss after falling from a pyramid and sustaining a concussion is not unheard of either. It actually takes a lot of guts to let someone throw us several metres into the air. The resulting stereotypes can cause some frustration for cheer enthusiasts.

Question 2 :
What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a chance, would you join cheerleading? Why/ why not?

My opinion of cheerleaders is that they take a lot of effort to do cheerleading, dance and stunts. It is a risk of doing it. If they did something wrong during their practices, they may be injured and need times to heal their wounds. Costumes that they wear are also expensive and they need to buy new costumes for each and every competition season. If I have the chance to join cheerleading, I would not join because I did not want to risk myself of doing all those gymnastics and stunt. If I got injured, I would have to spent money buying medicine to heal my wounds. Times is also one of my reasons because I did not have so much time to go for the cheerleading practices. To me, studies are important, therefore, I would use my free time and revise my work.

Minister questions plans to seperate conjoined twins (part A- prime - page A1 & A6)

Question 1 :
What are some of the problems involved in seperating a conjoined twin?

In some instances, Surgeons, they have to pick one twin to die in order to save the other. Even those who survive would often be left with serious brain damage. One major problem here is making sure that blood supply to both brains is maintained at all times.

Question 2 :
If you were a part of a conjoined twin, would you rather stay together with your twin for the rest of your life or would you risk both your lives to go for an operation? Why?

Actually, it all depends on the situation.I may continue to stay with my twin together for the rest of my life. If my twins are bad, not good with me or others, i may intend to risk both of our lives for an operation. If i stay together with my twins for the rest of my life, i may have difficulties having normal life like other human beings. These may make me feel uncomfortable, helpless, sad and even envious of the other human being having such a good normal life. As for going to an operation, it is a kind of risky as on the newspaper, some of the surgeons say that if the operation is unsuccessful, both of the twins may eventually died. If the operation is successful, it may be a good news but, one of the twins may be left with serious brain damage while the other ones would survive. If you were the mother of the twins, you may be having a difficult decision to make. This decision may tell you whether the twins died unfortunately, one of them would survive or both would survive.

Businesses are still big on doing good
(Part B - Home Section - Page B6 - The Home Market)

Question 1 :
What are big companies doing in order to be more socially responsible?

Some companies to step up on activities with their efforts to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities. Big businesses are not cutting down on their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. Community which supports initiatives focusing on youth and education. Environment, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and cut down on paper usage. Market-place which involves corporate governance and workplace, which provides learning and development opportunities and quality work-life balance for its staff.

Question 2 :
How important it is to be socially responsible? And do you think it is still possible to make a social impact during recession?

When the number of people retrenched increased, the manpower of the companies will decrease. As a result, the income will be lesser. Slowly, the company will not be able to survive during the difficult times and hence fold up. If this situation continues within big companies, the country will eventually have to use its backup fund. However, there is still ways to salvage the situation without retrenchment. I suggest that at least give the workers some chance to work and the number of retrenchment will slowly decrease.
