Businesses are still big on doing good
(Part B - Home Section - Page B6 - The Home Market)

Question 1 :
What are big companies doing in order to be more socially responsible?

Some companies to step up on activities with their efforts to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities. Big businesses are not cutting down on their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. Community which supports initiatives focusing on youth and education. Environment, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and cut down on paper usage. Market-place which involves corporate governance and workplace, which provides learning and development opportunities and quality work-life balance for its staff.

Question 2 :
How important it is to be socially responsible? And do you think it is still possible to make a social impact during recession?

When the number of people retrenched increased, the manpower of the companies will decrease. As a result, the income will be lesser. Slowly, the company will not be able to survive during the difficult times and hence fold up. If this situation continues within big companies, the country will eventually have to use its backup fund. However, there is still ways to salvage the situation without retrenchment. I suggest that at least give the workers some chance to work and the number of retrenchment will slowly decrease.
